Supreme Court,
June 10th, 1902,
150
xcellency
Sir,
1.
I have the honour to forward the enclosed Minute
addressed to me by the Registrar of the Supreme Court, with
regard to the vacant office of Deputy Registrar and Accountant.
2.
I quite concur in his views that it is most
desirable that the post should be filled up without delay,
It is not satisfactory to have the duties of the
office parcelled out, as at present, among the various clerks in
the Registry.
4.
The qualifications for such an appointment are a
fair acquaintance with lew, especially the law and oractice of
the Supreme Court, and a knowledge of Rook teaoine, Though some
knowledge of Chinese is an advantade, it does not compare in
importance with the experience acouirei in legal practice by a
nao who has served his articles with a Solicitor at home,
5.
Mr Seth, the other Deouty Registrac and Appraisec,
is not in such good health as he used to be and if we should
lose his really valuable services T em afrail great difficulties
would arise with rezar) to the important work of the Registry of
the Supreme Court.
It is desirable that any caulidate should
understand that he would be expected to remain for sone years
in the post, as it is only by experience that e orooer knowledge
of his work can be obtained; and when accounts of moneys in trust
estates and suits lasting often for years, have to be kept, it is
desirable
Major General Sir 4. J. Gascoigne. K.0.4.3.
Administering the Government.
